Over the last few days, we’ve been talking a lot about the benefits that come from being one of the only dentists in your town who is a published author.

It’s the ultimate business card.

You can hand out copies of your book to potential patients, or any professional peer or contact you meet. It’s a great way to build authority.

Anyway, a reader of this newsletter wrote back to me and asked:

“A lot of our patients don’t read. What’s the use in giving them a book?”

This is a fair question. But it’s misguided.

Here’s why:

I don’t advisee dentists, orthodontists, periodontists, or other “white-collar” professionals to hand out books to potential clients for them to actually read.

I mean, a lot of people will, and they’ll love reading them.

(We know this because our clients often forward emails to us, from their own patients/clients, praising their book and thanking them for writing it.)

That’s great.

However, it’s really just the icing on the cake.

The real reason we advise you to give a copy of your book is because, quite simply, it changes the way they look at you. It gives you a new level of status.

All they need to do – to get the message – is hold your book in their hands, flick through the pages, see that it is loaded with solid content and advice.

They now like you more, trust you more, and respect you more.

They’re now less likely to flake. Less likely to try and “make a deal” or complain about your fees. Like likely to “ghost” you and ignore your calls.

They’re now more likely to show up on time. More likely to thank you for, and appreciate, your hand work. More likely to recommend you to their friends. All because they held your book in their hands and gave it a glance.

You’re no longer just “a” dentist. You’re the authority.

You no longer just “fix their teeth”. You play an important role in helping them, and the people they love, stay healthy, enjoy life, and feel attractive.

You don’t just take their money and show them out your room. You care about them after they go home, and it shows in the tone throughout your book.

All this comes from them merely holding your book in their hands.

NOT from actually reading it.

This is why it pays to be the only dentist in your city (or, if you live in a larger metro area, one of the only) who is a bona fide published author – and why it pays to give free copies of your book to patients and potential patients.

But what if you don’t have a book to give them?

Well, that is what our Speak-a-Book™ service is for.

We’ve developed a unique and proprietary way to get your knowledge and experience down on paper, in less time than it takes to watch a decent movie, and then turn that into a solid book.
