My name is Patricia Van Haren, and I am the founding attorney of the Law Office of Patricia C. Van Haren, Professional Law Corporation. I have been a practicing attorney since May of 2011. Before attending law school, I was a family law paralegal for approximately 20 years. During that time, I acted as a paralegal for several attorneys. Subsequently, my skills and knowledge allowed me to develop my family law practice.

I went through my divorce when my children were very young. I raised my three children as a single mother while working and attending law school at nights and weekends. After graduating from law school, I established my first office and opened the doors as a sole practitioner.

The focus of my practice is to assist families with their life transitions. Our office prides itself on being able to establish personal connections with our clients. When working at law firms, I often realized that the attorneys knew little about the client or family that they were working with. I wanted to practice differently. I understand that the key to being a trusted counselor and advisor is to know the client on a personal level while achieving their objectives.

I understand the challenges of going through a divorce. I also understand that no matter who decides that it is time to ultimately end a marriage, the process can be a difficult and painful one. I strive to assist my clients in getting through the divorce process with the least amount of pain as possible. I know that the challenges of raising children without a partner can be tough. And so, I seek to assist families transition from couples to co-parents.

Family is important, which is why I wanted to create a family-focused practice. I am determined to forge sincere long-lasting relationships with my clients and help guide them through life’s journeys and changes. I represent both married and single individuals with family law related legal needs. This includes, but is not limited to, adoptions, prenuptial agreements, post-nuptial agreements, contested and uncontested divorces, child custody matters, guardianship, military divorce, paternity cases, and child support modifications.

With this experience, I have become comfortable with understanding the intricacies of property arrangements, and the characterization of property as it relates to the clients’ situations and needs. My office can help you with family law matters through litigation, negotiation, collaborative divorce, or mediation.

How To File And Survive A Divorce In California? Information That Can Help You Navigate The Process

This book is for anyone who is contemplating divorce or in the divorce process. I intend to give reliable legal information, guidance, and assistance to readers so that they can get through the divorce process with the least amount of damage. By the time my clients come to me, I often find that they have made bad decisions or taken bad advice from friends or family members, such that a lot of my work is damage control.

I want to prevent people from unknowingly damaging their case before they file for divorce, or to take corrective measures during the process to protect themselves. People try to find information online, but the fact is that Google is a dangerous place to find information because it is not state-specific, and does not stay updated in changes in the law. Further, online searches are not a substitute for legal advice.

Although family law is emotionally charged, the reality is that all of the choices made, and all of the orders made by Judges, are business decisions. If someone is armed with knowledge and facts, they will be able to make informed and logical business decisions during their divorce process.
