As a part of the leadership team of the board of directors of the Workers’ Compensation Alliance that lobbies for workers in the state of New York, I speak with New York assembly members and senators. Many of them think workers’ compensation is, “You get hurt at work. You get paid. You get medical treatment, and everything is good.”
No. Not quite.
This book is written for anybody who is dealing with workers’ compensation in the state of New York. It’s not only for the person who has been hurt at work and then blindsided by the complexities of the system and the tactics of the insurance companies but also for the injured person’s doctors and the doctor’s staff. And of course, this book is for the attorneys working with those who have been hurt because workers’ compensation is complicated and difficult to navigate through. It's a very particular type of law that even many lawyers don’t know much about.
To begin, it does help to understand a little about the history of workers’ compensation in New York.
