I have been a practicing attorney since 2003. I originally began practicing in a general practice law firm handling many different areas of law. Once I had children of my own, I decided I wanted to get away from litigation and court schedules to focus on estate planning and business planning as I found they often go hand in hand from a planning standpoint.
In 2009, I started volunteering with a non-profit organization that worked with families with children with special needs. This volunteer work was not done in the legal context but I began to hear about, and see, a need for families to better understand the resources available to them and the type of planning that could protect their children. I began to look into what planning was available for these parents and it has become a passion ever since. I now help families with special needs planning for benefits, estate planning, and guardianship issues.
Estate Planning: When You Have A Child With Special Needs Plan Your Estate Well, Protect Their Future
The goal of this book is to educate parents as best as I can. There is a lot of information out there, so I help parents figure out where to look and how to access basic information in terms of what type of planning is available, why it is important to plan, and what will happen if they do not plan properly. There are different planning needs and concerns depending on the life stage of the child, and we can help families at every stage of life. This book is designed to provide an overview of the planning process and help parents avoid the pitfalls of improper planning or no planning at all.
